Sow To Reap!

October has been a month of celebration, connection, and deep introspection. This season has been filled with vibrant milestones, such as weddings for some of my best friends, graduations and my brother finishing his O’Level studies, that have filled my heart with joy. The roads traveled, both literally and metaphorically, have been lined with sacrifice and gratitude. Each moment seemed to bring a new perspective, reminding me of the truth that we indeed harvest what we plant.

This month, I had the joy of attending my best friend’s wedding and graduations for the two young men that supported me and sacrificed their time to be with me in hospital while I was admitted after the surgery last year in April, while they were doing their end of Semester exams. Each of these was a beautiful reminder of life’s transitions and the strength it takes to reach significant milestones.

Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. Galatians 6:7

But more than that, I realized that weddings are more than ceremonies; they are unions that bind two people in commitment, love, and shared dreams. Standing alongside their friends and family as they pledged themselves to each other felt like an uncommon blessing, and I couldn’t help but reflect on the effort, dedication, and love that made their relationship flourish. I am so glad to have walked the journey with them and still pledge my life and time, to support them in every fruitful way I can.

My biggest take away from these experiences is the overwhelming necessity for me to Trust God in all things no matter how they look and feel. I saw God calm the storms that were rising and deliberately doing things His way and according to His plan, even when our hearts were shaken a bit by the prevailing circumstances. He is truly, a faithful God.

The other aspect is the investment of making trips that mostly felt like a sacrifice. I can honestly say it was more than just covering miles; it was about commitment and sacrifice. Of course, every form of traveling requires time, resources, and at times, even putting aside personal comfort for the sake of being present. These sacrifices are usually humbling, but also show us the beauty of investing in relationships and experiences that may demand a lot yet return much more. What matters to me most is that the people I connected with brought priceless memories, and I found that these experiences grounded me in what truly matters in life.

My birthday this October was especially meaningful, more so than ever before. It wasn’t just another year added; it was a powerful reminder of how life rewards us based on the seeds we plant. The people who reached out, the moments of reflection, and the deep sense of gratitude I felt confirmed a profound life principle: we reap what we sow. Looking back on the year, I could see that every moment of kindness, every investment in relationships, and every effort to build a meaningful life had come full circle. This birthday wasn’t just a personal celebration; it was a testament to the fact that life, in all its beauty and complexity, gives back what we are willing to invest in it.

On my way back home after the church service that day, I used a motorcycle and as we rode away, the cyclist started a conversation, as they usually do, about life and how important it is to respect and honor the people we live and walk with and not take them for granted. he shared a common African proverb that I knew but somehow, it made more sense that night. The African proverb says “Treat every part of your towel nicely, because the part that wipes your buttocks today will wipe your face tomorrow”~ Robert Mugabe.

It made appreciate the things God has been doing in life for the better part of the year that I will talk about in the next article, but also reminded me of the undeniable truth that indeed, a person is a person because of other people. I do not know what this means to you, but I had so much to reflect on and I believe my next season of life will be dominated by the execution of these reflections and deliberate investment in the things that truly matter in this wonderful life we have been given by God.

Stay Blessed!

  1. Even though it’s February 2025, the wisdom in this article resonates deeply. It reminded me of my own S6 vacation, spent helping my sister with her newborn and household chores. At the time, I was simply lending a hand, especially since she was having trouble finding reliable help. Little did I know I was planting seeds for my own future.
Last year, when my husband and I welcomed our first child, we found ourselves needing childcare. Miraculously, the perfect caregiver came into our lives. As I thanked God for this incredible blessing, the Holy Spirit brought to mind that time I’d faithfully served my sister, despite the difficulties.
Isn’t it beautiful to have the Holy Spirit working in us both to will and to do according to His good pleasure? He understands the seasons of our lives and knows which seeds we need to sow today for a bountiful harvest tomorrow.
